Statement on Racism
The Delta Teachers’ Association Executive Committee recently met to recognize that the call for racial justice is too important to ignore. George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight, by police officers, reminding the world that systemic problems exist in regards to racism. The DTA Executive does not condone racism in any form. We commit to learning how to better support the Black Lives Matter movement and to be better allies to victims of racialized oppression in Delta, in our schools, in our local, and in our broader communities. We also commit to asking ourselves the difficult questions, and recognizing the role of public education in creating a future where all people are safe and are free from racial violence. The DTA EC encourages others in our community to join our efforts to learn about how we can promote positive social change.
